The Banffshire Parade and Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

The Banffshire Parade and Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II took place on Sunday 23 October at  Banff Parish Church. The Lord-Lieutenant and past and present members of the the Banffshire Lieutenancy Team were joined by a congregation of over 650 people. 

Before the service, the Parade of Colour Parties and representatives of the Royal British Legion and uniformed youth organisations were led by five Banffshire pipe bands (Banff Castle, Portsoy, Strathisla, Buckie and District and Aberlour).  The Parade was commanded by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Brigadier Hughie Monro CBE DL.

The Service was led by clergy from across Banffshire - Pastor Rob McArthur (River Church, Banff), Rev Kingsley Chigbo CCE and Rev Peter Ezekoka (St Peter's Church, Buckie), Rev Andrew Kimmitt (Aberlour Parish Church), Rev Amy Bender (Keith North Parish Church) and Rev Hugh O'Brien (Macduff Parish Church).  The Lord-Lieutenant gave the Tribute to HM The Queen and led the minute's Silence.  Reading were given by Mrs Clare Russell CVO, Kathleen Robertson (Leader, Moray Council), Mr Ron McKail (Deputy Provost, Aberdeenshire Council) and Jake Watt (Head Boy, Banff Academy).  Music was led by Mr Stephen Pratt (Organist, Banff Parish Church), Mr Robert Milne (Organist, Macduff Parish Church), The Deveron Singers and lone piper Pipe Major Andrew Cook.
After the Service, the Parade re-formed and marched along Banff High Street where the Salute was taken by the Lord-Lieutenant and Lieutenant General Sir Alistair Irwin KCB CBE, President of the Royal British Legion for Scotland.  Large crowds gathered to watch the unique and special occasion.
