The Banffshire Memories project was launched in 2020, shortly before the start of lockdown. The aim was to collect stories and memories from people living in historic Banffshire, covering the period of the life and reign of HM The Queen.
To mark the Platinum Jubilee of HM The Queen, one hundred contributors have submitted one hundred and fifty stories which have been published under the title The Spirit of Banffshire. Topics include memorable events (including royal visits), the workplace, school, extreme weather, childhood and much else. Contributors were asked to keep their submissions to two hundred words which makes each tale very readable and accessible. The book was compiled and edited by Andrew Simpson, Lord-Lieutenant of Banffshire, and Eleanor Gillespie, post graduate history student from Elgin, with the support of the Banffshire Field Club.
