The Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort

On Saturday 6th May, for the first time in 70 years, the United Kingdom will witness the coronation of the monarch when King Charles is crowned King. 

 

A series of events is planned which allow members of the public to be involved during The Coronation Weekend, Saturday 6th May and Sunday 7th May 2023, and on Monday Bank Holiday, 8th May 2023.

Plans also include Banffshire communities holding special events.

Saturday 6th May 2023

The Coronation at Westminster Abbey, broadcast live on television.

 

Sunday 7th May 2023               

The Big Lunch, a special community celebration project co-ordinated by the Eden Project in Cornwall.  Communities are encouraged to organise events that allow people to come together.  These can be whatever is suitable.  E.g. street parties, soup and sweets, tea parties, ‘bring a picnic to a picnic’, etc.  More details can be found here:

The Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle.  Members of the public can apply for tickets – the ballot closes on 28th February.

Monday 8th May 2023

King Charles recognises the importance of volunteers and community activities.  He would like the Coronation weekend to be an opportunity to celebrate and encourage volunteering.  The Big Help Out allows local groups to demonstrate their activities and provide people a taster of volunteering.  Many well known organisations are taking part.
