The Lord-Lieutenant of Banffshire, Mr Andrew Simpson, is His Majesty The King’s representative in the historic county of Banffshire. The prime duty of the Lord-Lieutenant is to uphold the dignity of the Crown. The Lord-Lieutenant’s role is non-political and voluntary. He leads the Lieutenancy Team, which includes the Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Brigadier Hughie Munro, and seven Deputy Lieutenants representing all parts of our historic county.
The Lieutenancy Team aims to promote historic Banffshire, its people and culture, diversity, heritage and history by serving its communities and encouraging engagement, voluntary service and achievement across all groups and sectors. The Lord-Lieutenant and his team undertake a range of activities, including:

arranging Royal visits and representing The King, or other members of the Royal Family, at events

support the Armed Forces and their Cadet Associations

supporting and promoting a wide range of voluntary and civic activity and encouraging a sense of community in our towns, villages and rural areas

supporting local business and enterprise, including making visits to local businesses

visiting and bringing greetings to Banffshire residents on special wedding anniversaries and birthdays

participating in Remembrance ceremonies at all Banffshire memorials in November each year
-
participating in Citizenship Ceremonies to welcome new UK citizens resident in Banffshire

playing an active part in the honours system, increasing public awareness of the honours system, encouraging nominations, helping to assess nominations, and presenting honours, medals and awards on behalf of The King, including BEMs, Queen’s Award for Enterprise, Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and the Elizabeth Cross

arranging invitations to Royal Garden parties and Royal Christmas Carol Services
